This Jeep cum Trek Safari takes you through some of the most varied landscape in the West Himalaya. You travel through lush green countryside with forested hillsides and towering snow clad mountains and also get to experience the amazing landscape of a high altitude desert.

Day 1: Arrival Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi. Drive to the Railway Station from where you board the Shatabdi Express to the Himalayan foothills and town of Kalka.

Day 2: Arrival Kalka early morning. Disembark and catch the historic small train that began operation in 1903 to your next destination - Shimla (2151m). You have an option here: You could opt to drive up by road which is a shorter journey. Arrive by early afternoon and check into the luxurious Chapslee hotel.

Day 3: Free day to wander around this historic town with its narrow bazaar backstreets. On the mall road you get to see impressive buildings built in the Georgian architectural style. Go window shopping at stores selling a range of handicrafts and other knick knacks. Evening return to the Chapslee for an elaborate dinner with silver service in royal ambience.

Day 4: Leave Shimla and drive 170 Kms north to the beautiful Rest House at Sarahan strategically located on the crown of a hill overlooking the Satluj River valley. Enjoy the sunset over the Himalayas. Overnight.

Day 5: Leaving Sarahan early we reach the small hamlet of Kafnu (52 Kms). Our first night in a camp setup by the Dragon Tours staff. The Bhaba Pass or Tarikhango Pass Trek as our next days trail is known ranges from moderate to strenuous as regards walking. The Pass stands at the highest point of our trek at 4865m.

Day 6: (Trek Starts) Leaving Kafnu we head eastward over a well defined path through luxuriant forests of Pine and Deodar. You are rewarded with excellent views of the Spiti and Kinnaur mountain ranges. Evening settle into the camp at another tiny settlement at Mulling. About 3-4 hours of walking.

Day 7: Mulling to Tesa / Fushtring (5-6 Hours) Trek along the Wanger River and a foresetd green valley. A few stream crossings are involved. We reach the Bhaba Pass base and camp on the banks of the Wagner River.

Day 8: Tesa to Baldur (5-6 hours) Crossing the Pass we descend down a steep incline to the camping site at Baldur.

Day 9: Baldur - Mud (3-4 hours)We are now technically in the Pin Valley and on the periphery of the Great Himalayan National Park home to Ibex, Snow Leopards, Himalayan Black and Brown bears and numerous birdlife. Mud is a small hamlet and we camp just outside.

Day 10: Mud to Gulling (3-4 hours) Walk along the valley floor, pass green fields of potato and barley and enjoy the magnificent views of the barren landscape and towering mountains. Camp outside the village.

Day 11: Today we walk up to the Kungri Monastery high up in a rock cleft. There is also a new monastery here now built with the assistance of Japanese Buddhists. The older monastery contains precious frescoes and manuscripts dating back tot the 11th century. Moreover, there is a possibility of catching one of their colorful masked dances. Evening return to camp. (TREK ENDS)

Day 12: Leave Gulling for the capital town of Spiti - Kaza. Stop over formidably located Dhankar Monastery perched high on a craggy hillside on the other side of the Spiti River on our way to Kaza. Check into a hotel in Kaza for the night.

Day 13: Visit the famous Ki Monastery built on a solitary rock formation like a lighthouse. It overlooks the wide Spiti river basin and has ancient manuscripts and intricately painted thankas. After a packed lunch head north to what is believed to be one of the highest inhabited villages in the world- Kibber at 14,000 feet. From here you can see rolling meadows and in the distance the mountains of Ladakh. A monastery here is also well worth a visit as it offers splendid views of the mountains to the north.

Day 14: Leave Kaza and head east crossing the Kunzum La Pass (14,000 feet). Our destination today is a beautiful emerald lake the Chandertal (4270m) hidden between towering mountains. Camp beside the lake.

Day 15: Driving along the Chandra River in the Lahaul valley we gradually climb towards the 13050 foot high Rohtang Pass. From atop this dominating point we get clear views down into the lush green Kullu Valley a welcome sight after our journey through a surrealistic moonscape. Evening reach the bustling hill resort of Manali and check into a historical Edwardian bungalow - Johnson's Lodge for the night.

Day 16: It's time to relax and take a stroll along the Mall with its Restaurants and shops selling shawls, caps and mufflers in fascinating designs. You could walk up to the Hot Sulphur Springs in the village of Vashisht 3 Kms across the River Beas. Evening either eat out at a popular Chinese eatery the Chopsticks Restaurant or at the elegant Johnson Cafe next to where you're staying.

Day 17: Drive down to the Bhuntar airfield near Kullu for your flight back to Delhi. In case of flight cancellation due to weather conditions you have an option to drive back to Delhi the same day. This will involve an extra day in New Delhi.

Day 18: Day free to explore parts of the older parts of Delhi. The same evening drive to the airport for your flight back home.
