Our
Jeep Safari's go through some of the most scenic
routes in the Western Himalayas. It's a time of
discovering culturally rich tribal regions and
routes once used by traders and nomads. We travel
through roads dotted with picturesque villages
and ancient monasteries perched precariously on
craggy mountainsides. The areas of Kinnaur, Spiti
and Ladakh offer you a great time with their friendly
inhabitants and laid back lifestyle. It's Shambhala
(endless paradise) at its breathtaking
best. Rudyard Kipling summed it up quite poetically
when he wrote of Spiti "Surely the gods
live here". Our well maintained Jeeps
are manned by expert, knowledgeable drivers who
know the region well. Our support Jeeps carry
complete camp equipment and staff to ensure that
you're Jeep Safari is an experience you'll want
to remember forever. We can also create a customized
Jeep Tour in the areas you want to visit. Choose
from our regular Jeep Safaris or join us in creating
one of your own.
SJS1: The Extended
Trans Himalayan Jeep Trail -16 Days
Delhi- Pinjore-Shimla-Kinnaur-Spiti-Lahaul-Zanskar-Ladakh.
Highest
Altitude crossed: The Tanglang La Pass at 17,582ft.
This memorable Jeep Safari takes you from the
plains of the Punjab to the high mountains of
the Western Himalayas. Visiting the erstwhile
capital of British India, we go through the Kinnaur
valley with its lush green meadows, sparkling
streams and snow capped mountains. Further the
drive enters the hi-altitude desert regions of
Spiti where the vast open river basins, wind crafted
cliffs and plateaus elaborate on the meaning of
space. Meeting people who follow a remarkable
mix of Buddhism and Hinduism makes you feel you've
come face to face with a rare form of inner spirituality.
The best part of this safari is that you'll not
only glimpse some of nature's amazing storehouse
of transitional canvases but also people who seemed
to have left time behind. The dramatic change
in landscape is almost surreal as we drive from
rich alpine pastures into rugged barren mountains
and sculpted cliffs. Our final destination is
Leh -Ladakh 14,000 above sea level.
NOTE: You have an option to turn south after leaving
Spiti and Lahaul and emerge into the Valley of
the Gods - Kullu. Manali is where Shambhala has
its main office. From here you can return to New
Delhi after spending a couple of days in this
beautiful valley. The duration of this Jeep Safari
is 12 Days.
SJS2: The Short
Trans Himalayan Jeep Trail - Option 2: 14 Days
Delhi-Nalagarh-Manali-Jispa-Sarchu-Leh
Highest
Altitude crossed: 17,582ft.
In this option leaving Delhi we reach the royal
palace of the Nalagarh rajahs where we stay overnight.
The next day our drive traverses the foothills
to finally reach the mountain resort town of Manali.
The Kullu Valley also known as the Valley of the
Gods abounds in Apple orchards and quaint little
villages.
Here we spend a couple of days for acclimatization
before heading further north into the hi-altitude
deserts of Lahaul, southern Zanskar and Ladakh.
The road ahead involves the crossing of four high
mountain passes before it enters the wide Leh
plateau. En-route you pass surreal mud hills sculpted
into bizarre figures and also a vast desert plain
where the only occupants are groups of cuddly
marmots, packs of Wild ass and the elusive Snow
Leopard. This plain in season is home to the Changpa
nomads who tend their flocks of Churu sheep known
for their fine pashmina wool. Our final destination
is Leh where you can spend an interesting time
visiting ancient monasteries and experience the
colorful life of these hardy people.
SJS 3: New Delhi-Pinjore-Shimla-Sarahan-
