Shambhala is a friendly company managed by us - Lobsang and Tenzin Negi. Both of us were born and raised in the Himalayas growing up as members of the Khampa tribe a traditionally nomadic people. Since childhood we were involved in the tribe's business of trading in herbs and incense roots for which we explored the high mountains. The Khampa have been traders by profession since time immemorial. Traversing the high altitude regions of India and moving with their horses and merchandise into the Tibetan plateau some of our tribe also ventured into Central Asia on the ancient silk route. However times changed and our lifestyles transformed and though we still trade we do it in shops in Himalayan towns while others have opted for the travel business. It's part of our heritage.

Since childhood both we brothers professed a deep desire to study and were encouraged to attend school. We later went on to University and majored in History and Geography. However our hearts were always in the Himalayas and so we returned to incorporate Shambhala West Himalayan Explorations and share our love and knowledge of these beautiful mountains with all of you. We have now been organizing and leading groups for over two decades into the breathtaking landscapes of the Western Himalayas with encouraging results. We have used our knowledge of the mountains handed down from generation to generation to the advantage of our groups. We also support the local people so that tourism brings economic prosperity to them.

Today our guides are all experienced mountain men. Our horsemen with their hardy pack ponies are veterans of these mountains and know the trails like the back of their hands. And our camp staff is well trained in the finer aspects of camping. We all speak English, Hindi and often Tibetan as well as the local dialect of the area. We all are familiar with Himalayan weather conditions and ensure that each trek is planned at the proper time in the proper season. This avoids unnecessary change in itineraries and plans. We also offer the latest in reliable camping and trekking gear.

One thing that is very dear to us is the importance of protecting the environment and ecology of the Himalayas and all our staff members are sensitive towards this. One of our main concerns is ensuring your safety in any eventuality for which we are well equipped. Our other focus is to give you a great time in the Himalayas while you're with us. Do feel free to contact us with any kind of information you require on the Himalayas.
